The Common Struggle
If you’ve ever wanted a meaningful practice
but didn’t know where to begin —
you’re not alone. Most people feel drawn to the lunar cycle but struggle to make it feel personal, consistent, or real. The problem isn’t you — it’s the absence of a clear structure.
“I never know what phase it is.”
Without a framework, the moon’s cycle blurs into background noise. A clear phase guide turns observation into intention — and intention into practice.
“I can never stay consistent.”
Ritual follows rhythm, not resolve. When your tools stay the same and the moon provides the timing, returning each month becomes effortless — not another thing to remember.
“It feels too spiritual for me.”
Lunar practice doesn’t require belief — only attention. Setting intentions, releasing what’s done, and resting before beginning again is simply how living things grow. The moon just gives it a rhythm.
The problem isn’t you. It’s the absence of a ritual — and the tools that make one possible.
The Practice
Lunar Rituals as Sacred Practice
The moon has governed human ritual for as long as people have looked to the sky. Its cycle — from the darkness of the new moon through the radiant fullness of its peak and back again — mirrors the rhythm of all living things: intention, growth, release, and rest. To practise with the moon is to stop moving against the natural current and begin moving with it.
“The moon does not impose — it invites. It offers a rhythm, and asks only whether you are willing to move with it.”
Creating a lunar practice means choosing to work in rhythm rather than against it — setting intentions at the new moon, building and acting during the waxing phase, releasing and expressing gratitude at the full moon, and surrendering what no longer serves during the wane. This is not superstition. It is a structured relationship with natural time.
At Alchemy Wares, our lunar ritual collection draws on crystals, candles, incense, and ritual tools chosen for their resonance with each phase of the moon. Every product is selected with intention — to support your practice, deepen your awareness, and align your energy with the natural rhythms that have guided humanity for millennia.
The Ritual
A Simple Lunar Practice
Check the current moon phase before you begin. Each phase calls for a different kind of work — know whether you are planting, building, releasing, or resting.
Cleanse your space. Light Palo Santo or sage, open a window, and allow the smoke to move through the room before you begin your ritual.
Select a crystal aligned with your intention. Moonstone or selenite for intuition and lunar connection, clear quartz for amplifying any intention, black tourmaline for releasing and protection.
Light a candle. White for clarity and new beginnings, silver or deep blue for full moon work, black for the waning moon and release. Sit with the flame for a moment before continuing.
Write your intention, gratitude, or release on paper. At the new moon, write what you are calling in. At the full moon, write what you are grateful for. At the waning moon, write what you are letting go.
Sit in stillness for five to ten minutes. Hold your crystal, breathe slowly, and allow the energy of the phase to move through you. There is no correct way to feel — simply notice.
Close with gratitude. Extinguish your candle intentionally, place your crystal somewhere visible, and carry the energy of the ritual with you into the days that follow.

The Ritual
Creating a Simple Lunar Ritual
Begin by noting the current phase of the moon. This is not a small detail — it is the entire foundation of lunar practice. The energy available to you right now depends entirely on where the moon sits in her cycle. If you are at the new moon, your work is inward: reflect, intend, seed. If you are approaching the full moon, the work becomes outward: celebrate, amplify, express. If you are in the waning phase, your task is to release — to honestly name what is draining you and consciously let it go.
Once you know the phase, select your tools accordingly. For new moon work, reach for moonstone or clear quartz, a white or silver candle, and an oil like cedarwood or vetiver that grounds and centres. For the full moon, jasmine, rose, and sandalwood oils carry the moon’s amplifying energy beautifully. Selenite — which never needs cleansing and naturally elevates the vibration of any space — is an ideal companion for all phases of the cycle.
Cleanse your space before you begin. This is not ceremonial decoration — it is a practical act of energetic hygiene. Palo Santo or sage smoke carries stagnant energy out of a room, and the deliberate act of moving it through your space signals to your nervous system that something is shifting. Open a window. Invite fresh air in. Let the smoke move where it wants to move.
Light your candle and sit with it for a full minute before continuing. The flame marks the boundary between ordinary time and ritual time. Crossing it consciously changes everything that follows. Apply your chosen oil to the wrists and throat, or add it to a diffuser nearby. Let the scent settle into the room before you reach for your crystal or your journal.
Write. At the new moon, write what you are calling in — not as a wish list, but as a sincere declaration of what you are choosing and why. At the full moon, write what you are grateful for. Allow this list to be longer than feels necessary. Gratitude expanded deliberately is one of the most potent energetic practices available to us. At the waning moon, write what you are releasing — old stories, patterns, resentments, fears, relationships with outcomes that no longer serve. Burn the paper if you can do so safely, or tear it with intention and let it go.
Lunar ritual is cumulative. A single session will create a noticeable shift in clarity and presence. But it is the sustained practice — following the full cycle, month after month — that transforms. As you track your intentions from one new moon to the next, you will begin to notice what has arrived, what has naturally fallen away, and what you are still in the process of becoming. The moon does not rush. Neither should you.

What Changes
A cycle of intention changes everything. Quietly.
How you’ll feel
A natural sense of timing
You stop pushing against the current and begin moving with it. Decisions, rest, and action each find their rightful moment.
Clarity that compounds
Each new moon intention builds on the last. Within three cycles you can see the thread of your own becoming.
Permission to rest
The waning moon and balsamic phase give you a structure for stillness that modern life rarely offers. Rest becomes intentional, not accidental.
A quieter inner world
Regular release work at the full and waning moon reduces the accumulation of unprocessed emotion. The mental load lightens with each cycle.
What becomes easier
Staying consistent
When the moon sets the rhythm, you stop relying on willpower. The cycle itself creates the pull to return — month after month, almost automatically.
Setting and tracking intentions
A lunar journal across twelve cycles becomes an extraordinary record. You can see exactly what you planted, what grew, and what you released.
Letting go
The full and waning moon give release a structure and a ceremony. What once lingered for months begins to move with the tide.
Sleeping more deeply
A balsamic moon ritual — stillness, dim candlelight, vetiver or lavender — signals the body that the cycle is complete. Rest arrives with intention.
“Lunar ritual is cumulative. A single session shifts something. A full year of cycles transforms everything.”

Questions
Frequently Asked
What is the best moon phase to start a lunar practice? +
The new moon is the natural starting point — it represents beginnings, fresh energy, and the planting of seeds. If you are new to lunar ritual, begin at the new moon with a simple intention-setting practice and follow the cycle through to the full moon two weeks later. Over time you will develop an intuitive relationship with each phase and what it asks of you.
Do I need to perform rituals outdoors? +
Not at all. A dedicated indoor space works beautifully — what matters is the quality of your presence, not the location. That said, if you have access to outdoor space, working under the full moon and leaving crystals out to charge overnight in natural moonlight is a powerful addition to the practice. A windowsill facing the moon works equally well if outdoor space is limited.
Which crystals are best for lunar rituals? +
Moonstone is the most directly aligned — it carries the energy of the moon itself and supports intuition, emotional balance, and cyclical awareness. Selenite is excellent for all phases, particularly for cleansing and amplifying. Clear quartz works with any intention. For release work at the waning moon, black tourmaline and obsidian support letting go and energetic protection.
How do I know if my lunar ritual is working? +
The most reliable sign is a growing sense of alignment — a feeling that your life is moving in the direction of your intentions rather than against them. Synchronicities become more frequent. Clarity increases. What needs to leave your life begins to naturally fall away. Lunar ritual works subtly and cumulatively over many cycles rather than producing dramatic overnight results. Keep a simple journal of your intentions and notice what has shifted by the following new moon.
